Quick facts

At a glance

During this multiday riding tour you’ll experience the remarkable landscape, culture and history of the Lofoten archipelago from horseback. Located far north of the Arctic Circle, Lofoten is a place like nowhere else on earth. Idyllic fishing villages with coloured houses, majestic mountain peaks, deep arctic fjords, squawking seabirds and scenic beaches. You’ll explore this magical environment from the back of the incredible Icelandic horses.

Riding a different route every day, you’ll enjoy five riding days with an average of 5 – 6 hours in the saddle per day and a shorter ride on the first day. This shorter ride will start at 10:00 pm. Depending on the season, this will allow you to see the midnight sun or (if you’re lucky) the northern lights from horseback! The day rides will take you, among other places, to unspoilt beaches and rocky valleys on the islands of Gimsøy and Vestvågøy. A few nights the horses stay where you finished the day’s ride while you shuttle back to the lodges, so you get to explore different areas of the Lofoten archipelago. You’ll also have the opportunity to visit the traditional Aalan Cheese Farm.

More information

Your home for the week are brand-new, Scandinavian-style lodges located just off the beach at Hov. The lodges are oriented toward the north with a spectacular view towards the northern lights in autumn and winter, midnight sun in summer and the great ocean, which makes them unique in Lofoten. There is a sauna and hot tub available to book for private use (not included).

Breakfast and dinner is served at a rustic restaurant, located at walking distance from the lodges. It’s a unique venue built in a more than 70-years old beautifully redecorated barn house. The restaurant offers traditional local food as well as a modern cuisine, allowing you to get a taste of the delicious Norwegian cuisine. Lunch is consumed en route of the day rides.

What do others say?

From the idea of and all the way throughout the experience, I felt wonderfully guided by Outside the Corral. Laure-Anne helped me find just the trip I was hoping to have this April, right at the start of the season in Europe. Looking forward to my next one ahead! This time, I will take my dad and my sister with me. Can warmly recommend this agency.

I highly recommend Outside the Corral as a partner for your next riding holiday. Laure-Anne understood our travel expectations very well and translated this in an attractive travel proposal. My questions at the start quickly became a non-issue thanks to Laure-Anne's expertise and the excellent guidance on site. OTC more than fulfilled its promise of a unique journey. I have already planned my next trip!

I travelled to Ireland as a non-rider and fully enjoyed the trip! The preparation went very smoothly, everything was prepared down to the last detail. Laure-Anne's enthusiasm made me very excited for departure. I am still reminiscing on the beautiful room, the friendly service, the delicious food and the tranquillity of nature during my walks.
