At a glance

During this multiday riding tour you’ll experience the remarkable landscape, culture and history of the Lofoten archipelago from horseback. Located far north of the Arctic Circle, Lofoten is a place like nowhere else on earth. Idyllic fishing villages with coloured houses, majestic mountain peaks, deep arctic fjords, squawking seabirds and scenic beaches. You’ll explore this magical environment from the back of the incredible Icelandic horses.

Riding a different route every day, you’ll enjoy five riding days with an average of 5 – 6 hours in the saddle per day and a shorter ride on the first day. This shorter ride will start at 10:00 pm. Depending on the season, this will allow you to see the midnight sun or (if you’re lucky) the northern lights from horseback! The day rides will take you, among other places, to unspoilt beaches and rocky valleys on the islands of Gimsøy and Vestvågøy. A few nights the horses stay where you finished the day’s ride while you shuttle back to the lodges, so you get to explore different areas of the Lofoten archipelago. You’ll also have the opportunity to visit the traditional Aalan Cheese Farm.

More information

Your home for the week are brand-new, Scandinavian-style lodges located just off the beach at Hov. The lodges are oriented toward the north with a spectacular view towards the northern lights in autumn and winter, midnight sun in summer and the great ocean, which makes them unique in Lofoten. There is a sauna and hot tub available to book for private use (not included).

Breakfast and dinner is served at a rustic restaurant, located at walking distance from the lodges. It’s a unique venue built in a more than 70-years old beautifully redecorated barn house. The restaurant offers traditional local food as well as a modern cuisine, allowing you to get a taste of the delicious Norwegian cuisine. Lunch is consumed en route of the day rides.

Our riding holiday to Monte Velho Equo Resort with Outside the Coral was absolutely fantastic. Everything was perfectly organised – the hotel, the lessons, the horses – but what truly made the experience special was the care and attention Laure-Anne gave to every single detail. This is not a traditional travel agency. Instead, it’s all about personal, thoughtful and genuinely warm guidance. We booked our trip well in advance and were kept regularly informed with updates and additional information in the months leading up to our departure. We received a detailed itinerary, practical tips, and even a handwritten card in the post shortly before we left. The day before departure, we received a lovely email wishing us a great trip. These may seem like small gestures, but they make a world of difference.

We usually have some concerns when booking horse riding holidays: What are the horses like? Are they well treated? Unfortunately, we’ve had disappointing experiences in the past. What immediately reassured us was knowing that Laure-Anne personally visits every location she offers. She knows exactly where she is sending her guests, and that confidence is instantly reassuring. The horses were clearly well cared for, received proper attention, and were treated with genuine respect. The lessons were professional and adapted to each rider’s level, with excellent instruction in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. And the hotel? Beautifully set in nature, peaceful, well maintained — and the foals roaming around were the perfect finishing touch. We will definitely book with Outside the Coral again. The entire experience was so personal and so well organised that it’s hard to put into words.

Thanks to LaureAnne from Outside the Corral and her good advice, I had a great experience with a first horse riding holiday. LaureAnne is very friendly, immediately presented me with some suitable options and was able to answer all my questions with great enthusiasm. I eventually chose Portugal in Alentejo. The introduction immediately felt familiar and personal and I couldnt wait to start my first solo trip. I also liked knowing that the destinations have been carefully chosen and that they are places where the horses are well cared for. In addition, it was very nice that LaureAnne was able to organize this for me at short notice, I only had to arrange my ticket and could therefore travel last minute without any worries. The experience was completely in line with what LaureAnne had told me about it. It was actually even more beautiful; the place, the friendly people and of course the fantastic, gentle Lusitano horses. I’ve been home for a few weeks now but I’m still reminiscing about this magical trip. I have rediscovered my passion and can’t wait to book my next riding holiday. I look back on this special adventure with very warm feelings!
