At a glance

This seven-night mobile horse safari will take you through the Okavango Delta, one of the world’s largest inland river systems and one of its most incredible wildlife sanctuaries. Each year an influx of water from Angola (1000 kilometres to the north) floods into the Delta to create this natural miracle: a patchwork of river channels, lagoons, islands and floodplains. The area is a magnet for birds and wildlife (incl. elephants, kudu, buffalo, giraffe), making it the ideal safari destination at any time of the year. The feeling of exploring this water wilderness on horseback is indescribable.

You’ll have the opportunity to ride both in the mornings as in the evenings. Occasionally you’ll have the option to carry out other activities, such as a tranquil journey in a mokoro (not to miss when in the Okavango!) or a bush walk to learn some tracking skills. There is no set itinerary during your safari with the location of the camp depending on water levels and wildlife movements. The emphasis is on the experience, the beauty of the Okavango and top level guiding. The riding and the horses are fabulous, the wildlife is incredible and the food (cooked over a log fire) is fantastic.

More information

The Okavango Delta ride doesn’t use a permanent riding camp. A lightweight mobile camp is transported by mekoros poled by members of the local community, who live on the fringes of the Delta and know it intimately. When the water levels are too low for the mekoros to navigate, a train of pack donkeys takes over. This means that there are no vehicles involved during this safari. Along with working in partnership with the local community, this safari offers a genuinely sustainable experience. The mobile camp is very comfortable in lightweight tents with standing room, fully made up stretcher beds, bucket showers and short drop loos.

There are a number of seven-night set departure dates throughout the year for a minimum of 2 participants and a maximum of 8 participants. Upon request other dates for 3 nights or more are possible for a minimum of 2 participants, please contact us for more information.
