At a glance
Set in the Corrientes province near the town of Esquina, just north of Buenos Aires, Estancia Don Joaquin is a traditional working cattle ranch surrounded by a vast network of lagoons, wetlands, and winding rivers.
Here, life moves with the land. Horses roam freely across the subtropical landscape, sharing the terrain with cattle and abundant wildlife, while splashy canters carry you through shallow waters and open grasslands, sometimes even offering the rare thrill of swimming alongside your horse.
Days unfold in true gaucho spirit: riding out with the ranch hands, helping to work cattle, and learning the skills and traditions that have shaped this way of life for generations. Between rides, the wetlands reveal their rich ecosystem: flocks of birds rising from the reeds, curious capybaras grazing along the water’s edge, and caimans basking in the sun. For a change of pace, cast a line for the legendary freshwater dorado in the Corriente and Paraná rivers, unwind with an in-room massage, or relax by the palm-lined pool.
Your hosts, Angie and Diego Solanet, share a deep passion for their horses and their homeland. Every stay is thoughtfully tailored to your needs, with a warm, family-style welcome that makes you feel right at home. Here, you’re not just a guest. You’re part of an Argentine family, immersed in a way of life shaped by tradition, pride, and a deep connection to the land.
The estancia is home to over 100 Criollo and Criollo-cross horses. Well accustomed to life with the gauchos, they are strong, athletic, and agile. The large herd ensures the horses are regularly rotated, so none are overworked and all enjoy ample time grazing freely in the fields.
Rides are done in traditional Correntina saddles (simple wooden frames covered with sheepskin) known for offering exceptional comfort over long hours in the saddle. he estancia offers horses and trails suitable for all levels, including complete beginners, with horses always available for guests. Groups are matched by ability, and private family rides can also be arranged.
