At a glance

Get ready to experience the real and wild Iceland! This selection of exciting trail rides offers different routes in south-west Iceland with a length varying between 160 and 260 kilometres. From the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, over Landmannalaugar (a valley in the Icelandic highlands) to the fertile district Borgarfjörður, these trail rides take you both to Iceland’s most popular attractions as well as to the most remote places. Whether you’re looking for extensive lava fields and hot springs or for mighty rivers and glaciers, you’ll have a hard time choosing from this selection. Please contact us to learn more about all the specific options available and to identify which tour would suit you best.

These trail rides are for experienced, fit, adventurous riders only. You’ll ride up to 45 kilometres per day mostly in the gait tölt and you’ll take a herd of free-running horses with you for the entire or for a part of the tour, which requires a certain speed.

More information

Accommodation on these ‘into the wild’- trail rides is rather adventurous. Apart from the first night, when you will stay in the host’s guesthouse, you will stay in sleeping bag accommodations. These accommodations include farms, guesthouses, community centres and simple mountain huts (partly dormitory style). Some mountain huts in the highlands only have cold water and no showers. Your luggage is taken by car between the overnight stops. Wherever you are staying, light pollution is always minimal. This is perfect for those who wish to see the northern lights. All meals are traditional Icelandic.

What do others say?

I had an excellent riding experience in Iceland. Laure-Anne was highly engaged in planning my trip and provided valuable information beforehand. When I received the itinerary, my expectations were already high, but the actual experience exceeded them. Eldhestar, the partner in Iceland, organized everything perfectly. The horses were in great condition, a crucial factor for me, and displayed energy beyond my expectations. In summary, it was a top-notch experience!
